What does a viscosity such as 5W-30 mean?

Why does a car with a DPF need a Low SAPS oil?

Low SAPS oils have reduced sulphated ash, phosphorus and sulphur content. This protects the diesel particulate filter (DPF), gasoline particulate filter (GPF) and catalyst from clogging. Such oils carry an ACEA C class (C2–C6) or, for trucks, E6, E9 or API CK-4.

Quality oils with the same viscosity and specification are generally compatible, so another oil can be used to top up in an emergency. For the best protection and to keep the approval, it is recommended to top up with the same oil that is in the engine.
